Within the first thirty (30) days, a new executive will encounter
both overt and covert obstacles; judge and be judged; and recognize certain ěrules
of the gameî in their new work environment. The intent of the New Manager
Assimilation is to help the executive understand the ěfirst impressions,î address
the truth or lack therein of those impressions, and become aware of style
and interpersonal behaviors that may need to be modified in order to optimize
their success. Both the new executive and his or her staff are trying to
answer three key questions about each other.
- What do we know about him/her?
- What dont we know about him/her?
- What would we like to know about him/her?
We recommend a facilitated session directed at
identifying issues and improving the awareness of an executive during the
early stages of the working relationship. We believe that if facilitated
by an independent third party, these three simple questions explored to
the fullest can go a long way toward creating an open honest dialogue between
the new executive and the appropriate work-related group.
